ABOUT THE ARTIST
SHEILA ORIFICE-ROGERS
Ceramic artist ~ potter Sheila Orifice Rogers holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston. She concentrated in painting and ceramics, planting the seeds that would grow into a life long studio art practice. Sheila works from her home studio nestled in the woods of Maine. She and her family, with cats and chickens, live surrounded by wildlife and the sights, sounds, smells, textures and mystery of the forest. Immersed in this environment and the natural world, “Learn from all teachers” (anonymous) is one of Sheila’s guiding principles. Sheila’s work has been exhibited in national and international juried gallery exhibitions.
Sheila’s wall sculpture is included in the 2001 Lark Publishing book Ceramic Sculpture. She enjoys many aspects of working with clay and art making and participates in intensive hands-on workshops and artists retreats at renowned craft schools such as Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts and Peters Valley School of Craft.
Growing up in New England, Sheila spent most of her time as a youth playing and exploring in the woods, forming a lasting deep connection with nature and wildlife. Sheila is a long time supporter of the Center for Wildlife, a non-profit wildlife rehabilitation center in Cape Neddick, Maine.
